Dan

I’m Daniel Melville, I was born with a congenital condition which meant that I wasn’t born with my right hand. I’m a proud Open Bionics Hero Arm user.

I’ve been involved with Open Bionics since the day they launched, and I was lucky enough to be the first to be given the hero arm. Starting as a tester and then becoming a fully-fledged representative.

Over the years I’ve done some incredible things with Open Bionics and I count myself incredibly lucky for the experiences I have had the privilege to be able to take part in then and see Open Bionics reach grow across the world.

When I was asked to join the foundation, I was over the moon. For me helping others acquire hero arms is an absolute pleasure and joy to be part of. Knowing that others are getting to experience the Hero Arm like I did when I first wore it makes me feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment.

Away from the Foundation I run a small 3D printing business whilst also working as a technician at a school. I have two beautiful yet mischievous cats, I’m a gamer, I love reading a silly amount of comic books and I love designing.

Linzi
I’m Linzi, and my journey with The Open Bionics Foundation began while supporting their financial management through my role as a Chartered Accountant at GS Verde Tax & Accountants. In 2025, I was honoured to be appointed as a Trustee, where I bring a deep commitment to helping make advanced prosthetic technology more accessible and life-changing for those who need it most.
Outside of work, I’m a proud mum to two young sons and can often be found pitch-side—either cheering from the stands or shuttling the boys to their football matches. I’m also a keen traveller who enjoys exploring new places with my family, and I’m passionate about creating opportunities that empower others to live fuller, more independent lives.
John

I have been an Upper Limb Amputee since my accident in 2020, I had my amputation in March 2021, then my second March 2022. After a period of recovery I ended up talking to Open Bionics and found out that they were going to be doing a 6-month trial of a Hero Arm with Steeper.

They offered me the trial so I started wearing the arm and was giving weekly feedback to Open Bionics. After the trial I was able to keep the Hero Arm!

Around 6 months later I was asked to trial and test the HeroFlex Arm which I have since used for various activities like my Guinness World Record of bench pressing 70kgs 145 times in an hour – I featured on the news for this attempt.

I kayak 3-4 times a week with my HeroFlex Arm and have worked for an Amputee Charity as an Events and Hub Co Ordinator across UK.
